Learning Adventure 3

Note: This project was canceled. I am still awaiting more inputs from leadership at my company as to having a day or week free from the use of slide ware.

Slideware Free Week

Executive Summary:

1. The problem:

Work as a team to promote a week free from the use of slideware applications, such as Microsoft PowerPoint, Apple Keynote, and other similar slide ware products.
2. Discussion of relevance/meaning:

This Learning Adventure sparked some great discussions related to the appropriate time and place for slideware within the learning process.
3. Possible conclusions/solution:

This Learning Adventure was canceled for the group, based on a lack of shared vision. It is clear that for a project to be successful all those in the effort need to be clear on the goals and engaged in the process. When there is not agreement on the issue it will always be difficult to work in the same direction.
4. Supporting evidence – may include links, graphics, references, supportive arguments:

None at this time.

Reflection on the Process:

This was an interesting process. The discussion around the concept of promoting a slideware-free week sparked a great deal of debate and individuals became polarized quickly. I was a bit reserved in my approach to the concept as I wanted to be sure that the project was not focused on any one product for slides in particular.

It was an exciting but short process and I was still able to share the details with many individuals at work and begin speaking out about overuse of slide ware for communication. I still have a meeting planned with one of our VPs to discuss having at least one day where slide ware is not used in meetings or learning events. They seemed open to the idea and it is now a matter of reconnecting when both our schedules will allow.
